Artist's Description
A Black-footed Ferret patrols a Prairie Dog colony looking for a meal. The Black-footed Ferret is a rarity on the Great Plains. Once numerous, the small animals were harvested for the fur trade. It recently was introduced to the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge near Denver, Colorado and by all accounts, the program has been successful. That is where this image was captured.
